Methodology
Open, reproducible — computed from our own archive node
Definition
SOPR standardized against its own full history — how many standard deviations the current SOPR sits from its historical mean.
Formula
SOPR Z-Score = (SOPR − mean(SOPR)) / std(SOPR)How we compute it
We take the full SOPR series, compute its mean and standard deviation over all available history, and express the current reading as a z-score.
Interpretation
Large positive values flag overheated profit-taking; large negative values flag extreme loss realization. |z| > 2 is statistically unusual.
Caveats & limitations
- ·Uses the full-history mean/std (not a rolling window), so early-history readings are less stable until enough data has accumulated.
Current SOPR Z-Score reading
As of 2026-10-16, Bitcoin’s SOPR Z-Score is -0.127, compared with -0.295 one year earlier (2025-10-16). The series has 6,491 daily readings from 2009-01-03 to 2026-10-16, computed from our own full-archive Bitcoin node and refreshed every day.
Historical extremes
The highest SOPR Z-Score on record is 2.872 on 2025-12-27; the lowest is -2.210 on 2020-03-12. Readings near either end of that range have historically coincided with cycle turning points — use the chart above to see where today sits relative to past extremes.
